Position Purpose
The EHRC Internship Programme for 2024 is aimed at providing recent graduates and current students with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of equality and human rights. Interns will work alongside our dedicated team of professionals across various departments, including policy, legal, research, communications, and public affairs. The programme is designed to offer practical experience, develop professional skills, and provide insight into the vital work of protecting and promoting human rights and equality in Britain.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the development and delivery of policy and research projects related to equality and human rights issues.
- Assist with the drafting of reports, briefings, and consultation responses on key topics such as discrimination, equality law, and human rights.
- Conduct research and data analysis to support evidence-based policy development and advocacy efforts.
- Participate in team meetings, workshops, and stakeholder engagement activities to gain an understanding of the Commission’s strategic objectives.
- Contribute to public awareness and outreach initiatives, including social media campaigns, website content, and event planning.
- Provide administrative support to the legal team in case preparation, document review, and case management.
- Work collaboratively with different teams to support cross-functional projects and initiatives.
- Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with the Commission’s policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
Education
- Current students or recent graduates (within the last two years) with a degree in Law, Human Rights, Social Sciences, Public Policy, Political Science, Communications, or a related field.
- Knowledge of equality, diversity, inclusion, or human rights legislation is highly desirable.
Experience
- Prior experience in a research, policy, advocacy, legal, or communications role is advantageous but not essential.
- Demonstrable experience in volunteering, internships, or extracurricular activities focused on human rights, social justice, or community engagement is preferred.
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods or legal casework is beneficial.
Skills
- Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to interpret data and present findings clearly and concisely.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft high-quality reports, briefings, and digital content.
- Effective organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with research or case management tools.
- A strong commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and human rights.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
