Position Purpose:
The Wildlife Trusts are offering internship and traineeship opportunities for students and recent graduates in 2024. These positions are designed for individuals passionate about wildlife conservation, environmental management, and community engagement. Interns and trainees will work closely with experienced conservationists and participate in hands-on projects aimed at protecting wildlife and natural habitats. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience, develop professional skills, and contribute to the Wildlife Trust’s mission of restoring biodiversity and connecting people with nature.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with wildlife surveys, data collection, and monitoring of habitats and species in local nature reserves.
  • Support habitat management activities, such as planting, habitat restoration, and invasive species control.
  • Participate in community engagement and educational programs, helping to deliver wildlife-themed events, workshops, and guided walks.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of conservation strategies and action plans.
  • Provide administrative support, including record-keeping, research, and report writing.
  • Collaborate with volunteers and community groups to promote wildlife conservation efforts.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.

Education:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a university program in Ecology, Environmental Science, Conservation, Biology, or a related field.
  • Relevant coursework in wildlife conservation, environmental management, or community engagement is beneficial.

Experience:

  • Previous experience in conservation work, field research, or volunteering in environmental projects is an advantage but not essential.
  • Experience in working with community groups, schools, or the public in environmental education is desirable.

Skills:

  • Passion for wildlife conservation and a commitment to the Wildlife Trust’s mission.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with colleagues, volunteers, and the public.
  • Good organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and participate in physical tasks such as planting and habitat restoration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with GIS or data analysis software is a plus.
