Position Purpose:
Wiltshire Council is offering a range of internship opportunities for 2024, aimed at providing students and recent graduates with the chance to gain valuable experience in local government operations. Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to a wide variety of projects across different departments such as public services, planning, environmental sustainability, and community development. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with various council departments, supporting key initiatives in areas such as public health, community development, environmental management, and planning.
- Assist with project coordination, data collection, analysis, and reporting to support decision-making processes.
- Participate in community engagement programs, interacting with residents and stakeholders to gather feedback and improve service delivery.
- Contribute to sustainability and environmental initiatives, helping to meet Wiltshire Council’s green objectives.
- Provide administrative support, including scheduling meetings, preparing documents, and tracking project progress.
- Attend team meetings, workshops, and training sessions to gain insight into local governance and policy-making.
- Support the development and implementation of strategies aimed at improving council services and operational efficiency.
Education:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Public Administration, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Business, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Relevant coursework in local government, public policy, sustainability, or community development is desirable.
Experience:
- Previous experience in public service, community engagement, project management, or administration is an advantage but not essential.
- Experience in working with local government, volunteering, or internships in public or private sectors will be beneficial.
Skills:
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work on multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and team-oriented approach.
- Ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and present findings effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with project management tools is a plus.
- A proactive mindset, with problem-solving capabilities and a willingness to learn.
